Dr. Daniele Petrella, Ph.D.

Daniele Petrella was born in Naples on 09/12/1978. He graduated in Far East Archaeology with Japan specialization and completed Ph.D. in Archaeology (Relationships between East and West) at the University of Naples "L'Orientale". In 2006 also he specialized in Underwater Archaeology with the International Academy of Underwater Sciences and Techniques.

From 2003 to 2009 he has worked in archaeological excavations throughout the Italian territory with the excavation company Archaeology of Florence (now Archaeology) and New Archaeology and, in Ireland, with the CRDS.

He took part in the Italian Archaeological Expeditions in Oman with the University of Pisa for the excavation of the city of Khor Rori and in Nepal with the University of Naples "L'Orientale" for the mission to Gotihawa.

He is the creator and Director of the First Archaeological Expedition of a Western country to Japan in search of Kublai Khan's fleet, supported and co-funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic and the Nagasaki Prefecture, in collaboration with the Superintendence of the Sea of the Sicilian Region and the ARIUA (Asian Research Institute for Underwater Archaeology). Expedition goes on from 2009 to this day by annual campaigns.

In 2012, he founded the IRIAE (International Research Institute for Archaeology and Ethnology) in the belief that the archaeological, anthropological and the ability to communicate these issues effectively, are the access keys for learning about the world, human been and improve it . These sciences can be the basis of social, cultural and international relations.

With his institute is working in the realization of numerous expeditions abroad: India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Turkey and South America.

In 2014, he was honored with the prestigious Rotondi Award “Word Art’s Saviours” for having unearthed the fleet of Kublai Khan by rewriting an important page in the history of the world.
